Hail damage and insurance claims in New Braunfels, handled straight

After every spring storm the out-of-town trucks arrive with yard signs and deductible promises. We're the other option: an honest inspection, documentation your adjuster respects, and every dollar of the claim going into the roof.

Comal County gets hit almost every spring — two-inch stones in March 2022, ping-pong-ball hail in April 2024 and May 2025 — and ZIP 78132 has taken more hits than anywhere else in the county. That means two things for you: your roof has probably been hailed on in the last three years, and the week after the next storm your neighborhood will fill up with roofers you've never heard of.

Here's how we handle a storm. We inspect for free, on the roof, and mark a 10-by-10 test square on each slope the way your adjuster will. If we count enough hits to meet your carrier's threshold, we photograph everything, write it up, and you file the claim yourself — it's your policy. We meet the adjuster on the roof so the scope is right the first time, reconcile the estimate line by line with the carrier's software, pull the City of New Braunfels permit, and install the roof. You pay your deductible — Texas made it a crime for roofers to waive it in 2019 — and the claim pays the rest. If the roof doesn't meet the threshold, we tell you that too, and you've lost nothing but an hour.

What's included

Free storm inspection

On the roof within days of a storm, test squares marked, soft metals checked, everything photographed.

Honest threshold call

We tell you whether the damage meets your carrier's standard before you file. No claim if it doesn't.

Adjuster meeting

We're on the roof with your adjuster, pointing out what we found, so the scope is right the first time.

Scope reconciliation

Estimate written in the carrier's format, supplements for code items (ice-and-water, drip edge, ventilation) that the initial scope missed.

Deductible collected

As Texas Insurance Code requires. We put the claim into the roof, not into a discount.

Class 4 upgrade

Impact-resistant shingles quoted on every storm replacement, with the certificate for your insurance discount.

How to spot a storm chaser

They show up the week after the storm with out-of-county plates and a yard sign in the truck. They offer to "handle everything" with your insurer, waive your deductible, and want a signature the same day. The company name is new, the phone number isn't local, and by the time the shingles curl they're two states away. Ask any roofer three questions: what's your New Braunfels permit history, who's your workers' comp carrier, and are you going to collect my deductible? Then ask us the same three.

Questions we get about hail & storm damage

How do I know if my roof has hail damage?

You don't, from the ground. Hail bruises the mat and knocks off granules; the roof looks fine and fails two years later. Check the soft metals you can see — the gutter, the AC fins, the mailbox — and if they're dented, the roof was hit. Then call for a free inspection. Do it within a few months of the storm; most Texas policies limit claims to one year from the date of loss.

Will filing a hail claim raise my rates?

In Texas, a weather claim generally can't be used to surcharge you the way an at-fault claim can, but carriers do re-rate whole ZIP codes after big storms whether you file or not. Filing for real damage doesn't change that; not filing just means you pay for a roof the storm already paid for.

The roofer at my door said he'll cover my deductible. Is that legal?

No. Texas House Bill 2102, in effect since September 2019, makes it a Class B misdemeanor for a contractor to waive, absorb or rebate an insurance deductible, and the homeowner who goes along with it can be denied coverage. We collect the deductible and show it on the invoice, because that's what the carrier — and the law — expects.

Should I sign the contract before the adjuster comes?

You should never sign anything that assigns your claim to a contractor or lets them negotiate with your insurer on your behalf. We work for you: we document, we meet the adjuster, we reconcile the scope, and you approve the final price before we order shingles.

What if the adjuster denies the claim?

We ask for a re-inspection with our photos and test squares in hand. Many first denials are one adjuster's count on a bad day; a second look with proper documentation often reverses it. If it's still denied and the roof is sound, we tell you to keep it.

What is a Class 4 shingle and why does my agent keep mentioning it?

A shingle that passes UL 2218 Class 4 — a two-inch steel ball dropped from twenty feet, no cracks. Most Texas carriers give a premium discount for it, and after a claim it's the smartest upgrade you can make in the hail belt.
